I thought I was lucky to find one of the large Grand Central Terminals - the ones made in the USA by TrainWorx, but after receiving it from the dealer and opening it up it has 3 prominent cracks in the finish. Also, all the wood dowels are sheared off the base and a nail is sticking up through the roof. The cracks are what most concerns me as it makes the structure look dilapidated, kind of like a structure in disrepair, not what the "Grand Central" should look like. If anyone has this structure, can you check yours and see if it has any cracks in the finish. Was this common? I have a call into Trainworx now to see if there's any repair for this.

Paul,
I have the large GCT and there are no cracks or protruding nails. It did have one of the dowel pins sheared off when I first received it. Not sure why that would happen because they are just there for alignment. Roger and Dorcie at Trainworx are very nice to work with. I expect they will be helpful in this. Good luck!

Mine was in perfect condition when I opened the box and it has stayed that way. The day my GCT was received at my dealer, I picked it up and it was installed shortly thereafter. If you just purchased your GCT, what is the history? Remember, it was issued some 4 years ago.

I purchased mine from Eastside trains, new in box, I guess it was old stock. It's a real bummer.
I would talk to Roger at TW Designs. If he is willing to make the necessary repairs, perhaps Eastside Trains will cover this expense. Otherwise, I would return it for a refund. They come up for sale every now and then. I saw one at York.
Mine also had the dowels sheared off, a design mistake, in my opinion.
can you post a pic of the cracked part? Could be a simple fix as it all made of MDF, which holds glue very well. Sounds as though it , the whole package was dropped.
I would take it back, I am sure you payed alot.

Fred, I took some pictures and sent them to TW Design to see if there's any fix. I don't think I can glue the cracked pieces together myself as I would have to damage it further in order to get the glue in. Labels on the shipping carton say "This side up" but someone must have turned it upside down to put the invoice in it. I am not sure if that's what caused this damage, though. The carton only has the typical scuff marks, no real indentations. I am hoping TW has a fix for this, but being it is new old stock, you never know.

Paul, it's a real shame that happened to such a beautiful and expensive structure. But in my opinion you are lucky in who you are dealing with as they are a class act.

Please keep us posted with the next step. This is such a shame with such a beautiful terminal.
