First off Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!

I was able to run the 3 O gauge trains for the family on #2 with no issues!   The HO however is going to have to be reset since its not responding just like the O guage engines did when they were on fixed #1 and the only non Digital DC power is at my office and I'm not going in until the 2nd.

Barry,

Since it did not reoccur on #2 can I assume its just a bad #1 fixed issue and send away to MTH for repairs?

I'm scared to try the phone cable with the O guage trains since they are running so well but I will try once I get the HO train reset.

My apologies.

Here's an older post where I describe the problem.

First off I want to thank everyone especially Barry for being so patient with me and my questions.    I was able to run the HO in Fixed #1 and the AC O guage in Fixed #2 using the power supplies plugged into the respected Fixed inputs.

However the joy did not last long.   I first powered up the HO and then connected power to the AC trains on fixed 2 and everyone was working for about 2 minutes.    I looked over and the HO engine had stopped.    The headlight off and just sitting there with no sound.  The horn and bell still worked but it did not budge and did not respond to start up or power down commands.

I had the exact same issue on fixed 1 when I had all 3 of my AC O guage MTH engines running without the HO track.  (see this thread for details  https://ogrforum.com/t...67#22970455006463067 )   One of them after about 2-3 minutes simply stopped dead in its tracks.   Headlight off and only would respond with horn and bell.   No matter how many times I powered down the TIU it never got it to move.   Not until I hooked up that track to a  more basic MTH controller.   Then it began to move again with a lot of coaxing and when hooked back up to the TIU began to respond again.

I'm really starting to wonder if my fixed #1 channel is simply bad.   I'm scared to death to run the O gauge engines for any long period of time now because of what happened earlier.    Is this a bug in the TIU or the software anyone has heard of?

OK, thanks for re-booting my memory!

First of all,  it sounds like it may be a TIU isssue, however, it will most likely take some very controlled testing to determine if that's the case.

Regardless, I really don't think that you'll harm your rneignes by continuing to attempt to operate them on Fixed #1.

As far as a possible DCS bug being the culprit, that's not very likely.

I thought it might be a DCS bug brought on by a short on Fixed #1 since 3 trains have experienced the same problem on that channel

3 trains have experienced the same problem on that channel

There aren't any bugs of which I'm aware (and I'm aware of just about all of them!) that could cause that kind of an issue. However, the "3 of a kind" hand that you've been dealt would point towards one of two possible causes:

  • There is a hardware issue with the TIU's Fixed channel #1
  • There is something that you're doing differently in powering the TIU when you use Fixed #1 than when you use Fixed #2.

As far as using a phone cable to tether the TIU, if it works without the cable on Fixed #2, using the cable will not correct the problem on Fixed #1.
