Wow!! I checked both suggestions and what a difference. One was $3.00 each and the other was $14.75 ea.

 

Which makes me wonder about bulbs in general for loco's and passenger cars? Would it be cheaper to buy from the manufacturer or from parts guys? I have always liked to support both to spread the wealth so to speak, but just curious.

The person selling those bulbs at $14.75 has insane prices on all of their miniature light bulb stock. I guess some folks think that if the item is offered on EBay, then the price must be good.

 

I think many of the prices are high for train items. And most of it doesn't sell the first couple times. Probably selling one after five tries is the same return must be the thinking going on.

Try Town & Country Hobbies, they carry most light bulbs for Lionel. You may also try Autoluminations they have a section for toy trains.

       
       


I think manufacturers only sell hulbs in bulk, so you kind of have to find a distributor. Unless you want to buy a thousand bulbs at a go!

I buy basic bulbs in 10-packs from Memotronics. They sell a 10 unit box of 18v E10 size bulbs for about $6. If you need more than a handful this is a cost-effective way versus buying them for $1 apiece from a parts vendor. (They also sell bayonet bulbs for you postwar guys. Don't think they have globes, but I could be wrong.)

Generally I purchase my bulbs by the hundred.

I have not purchased bulbs in a while now. Here are two dealers who cater to the Lionel / American Flyer trade, and discount their bulbs. They also sell bulk wire, and selected parts I have purchased from both:

I am also wondering what wattage MTH uses on their384's and 10E's with ps2/ps3 for headlights. Not sure if it is supposed to be the 14V screw base or the 18v screw base?

 

 

I remember somebody telling me that if the wrong wattage bulb is used, it would not be at it's correct brightness, and would appear dim.

Good thing I did not buy any lamps. Midge at MTH told me all PS2 loco's use a 6v bulb, and the PS3's use an even smaller bulb as it utilizes an LED. It is only the PS1's that us the higher voltage bulbs.
