So I have this MTH Providence & Worcester Caboose. I think the color is off and I have procured some P&W tru color paint.

Any ideas how I can get all the lettering back after it is stripped and painted? Do I have to create my own or are the markings usually available from either the manufacturer or second hand sources?

I have never painted my own stuff so this is new to me. Thanks for any suggestions.

Paul

I'm assuming (yes I know) that this can be sprayed. Here is the paint:

Here is the caboose

Paul:

Why alter a perfectly good caboose that someone else might enjoy when you're going to re-finish it anyway?

Here's what I would do:

  1. Sell the caboose you have for whatever you can get for it.

  2. Buy a lower cost caboose (if not a junker) in any roadname at the next show you go to (e.g., Big E).

  3. Experiment to your heart's content with different finishes, painting techniques, decals, etc. knowing that if you muck it up, you can strip it and try again.

Makes sense?

I HIGHLY suggest using Tru-Color's thinner if you are going to spray it. Yes it is expensive but it works the best. Tru-Color dries very fast, especially when spraying. Their thinner slows down that process just enough to spray. It has been discussed many times on this forum about experimenting with other thinners for Tru-Color, and the bottom line always comes back to using their own brand. If you don't, your airbrush will clog, spit and sputter and ruin your finish.
