I usually pull out the cab lights in my TMCC stuff. Real trains don't run with their cab lights on anway. We don't want people to see what we're doing in there

the cab lights are usually so bright they are distracting.

LOL - When I saw J Daddy's response I wondered how PO'd he was to clip the wires!! My thought was the bulbs. Coming OUT today!!

Thanks everyone for all the responses!

I made this little module for diesel use.  With it I can do cab light control, Rule 17 lighting, and also have two level smoke volume, I cut the volume when the engine is stopped.  The diagram shows how I hooked it all together, and the second diagram is the circuit on the board.

The board is simple on concept, it senses whenever the drive motor has voltage, one presumes at that point you're moving, or you will be really soon.  At that point, the relay is engaged.  Once the motor is no longer receiving power, the relay drops out.  With a DPDT relay, it's possible to do the functions I described with a standard TMCC electronic package.  The actual board is only about 1" x 1/2" x 1/2", so it fits into almost anything.  The diode pairs illustrated to drop the smoke heater voltage can also be a couple of 1 amp bridge rectifiers wired as diode pairs, that is a little more compact than the individual relays.

As you can see, I think it's pretty cool when the cab light comes on when I stop and turns off when I'm moving.

For those doing semi-permanent disassembly/modification (cutting wire, removing bulbs/LED, etc), why would you not just hit AUX-2 to shut the light off?  (unless maybe not using command)  I think the loco latches to remember the light is off once you do it (unless you reset the engine).

Am I missing something?

Goofy weekend moment.... my bad..
