I purchased one of the Menards corner taverns.  I noticed it has a jack for an external power supply, and the packing refers to a 4.5 volt supply.  Does Menard's offer the appropriate supply?  If not, I have located a 5 volt supply in the All Electronics catalog. Is that safe to use with the building given the extra 1/2 volt?  And should the output be DC or AC?

BTW, is Menard's a regional version of Home Depot/Lowe's.  Just curious,  None in this area (Pittsburgh)

Thanks.

Menards is a home improvement type store but is family owned and is much more divers than Lowes and HD.....as evident by the amount of trains they carry....and other toys too...

Stick a single diode in series with the hot and you'll get about 4.3 going to the accessory. If you want to go the "roll your own" route, there are several sellers on eBay that sell variable output (0-15/0-32) DC power supplies. Just hit "voltage regulators" in the eBay search.

Go to Miller Engineering they make three products perfect for Menards/Woodland Scenics buildings.

AC adapters
Now you can replace the 3 AAA battery pack that comes with your
kit and use one of our wall mount AC adapters. Available in 2 sizes.
#4802 - 4.5volt AC/DC adapter, will run up to 3 signs   $7.95

#4803 - Large 4.5 volt AC adapter will run up to 10 signs.  $16.95

Converter Module
#4804 - Converter module.   $12.95

This unit will replace your battery pack. It will let you run your signs off track voltage or your power pack. Accepts an input voltage from 5 to 17 volts, AC or DC and outputs the required 4.5 volts for our signs. Will run up to 6 signs.

I believe Menards has a power supply but it's unregulated.
