Hi everyone I'm usually a big steam engine guy but I needed a switcher for my yard

and I must say Lionel did it again. This little engine is totally awesome, the sound is

incredible, smoke is massive, and it runs like a top. I ran it on the main line for the

quick video, but once I started moving I didn't want to stop. If any of you are looking

for a nice switcher you won't be disappointed. I love it. ENJOY

BIG THANKS TO LIONEL

Thanks, Alex

Hallelujah!!!  It's about time Lionel changed things up a bit.  Since Lionel abandoned engine-specific dialogues a couple of years ago (which I thought was a cheap way to cut corners), it seems just about every locomotive used the same towercom/crew dialogue and it was getting SO old and tired 'cause the voices literally had no "railroad charisma" to them.

I hate to be so critical, but some dialogues sounded like my accountant was asked to step in and read some railroad/engineering dialogue for the first time in his life... just lacked the colorful CHARACTER that I've come to expect from days of old railroad folklore.

At least this locomotive has a different set of voices!!!  Lionel's sounds are otherwise top-notch, so I'd hope that someday the bean-counters stop making product design decisions and Lionel returns back to the days of engine-specific towercom/crewtalk.

Enjoy the new switcher... and thanks for sharing the pics and video!  Looks like a winner.

Those of you who like the looks of the Lionel 0-8-0 but don't want to cough up $600+ for one of the "loaded" versions should periodically check on eBay for the nicer versions of the 0-8-0's from Lionel's entry-level train sets. In April I got a 7795 NYC 0-8-0 with full valve gear and TrainSounds for the buy-it-now price of $95. Conventional operation (no TMCC), but a beautiful engine, runs well and has all the sounds I need. There was a thread here where some folks posted pics to show the differences in the low-end 0-8-0's.
