I'm building a layout for my Lionel R-27 subway set, and I thought it would be nice to have a Lionel catalog showing it. I believe the set was first released in 2008, but I haven't seen it in the 2008 catalog websites. I tried searching both the internet and the OGR forums but did not find the answer. Can one of you catalog experts tell me the first time the R-27 set appeared in the Lionel catalog? Thanks. 😁

Lionel site claims 2007 Volume 1 for both the sets and add-ons. I'm not 100% sure it was only shown that one time, but I think it was probably only once. (their listing always shows "most recent" catalog)

Got my 2007 Lionel catalog. I was surprised to see that Lionel said the R-27 subway cars would be electrically connected by "wireless infrared". My set uses cable connections between the cars.
I think the Acela Infra-red connection "finicky-ness" probably came to light between R27 catalog copy and design/production.
Lionel probably did the right thing going to the tether.
