I just would like to say thank you all so much for the support and great ideas. I will have to decide and next week I have a BCR battery coming from another great forum member!!

It does seem to run fine, I use a tablet and an iPhone with the mth app to run my trains. It does save the ID to our devices. Please see the short video and Marty great paint job!! I’m a chef not a really good painter!! Sorry guys
I think we can conclude that it was probably an internal fault in the battery, it's rare for those NiMh batteries to go like that! I'd probably go for a super-cap replacement.
Hi John I am not familiar with a super cap. Is it a type of battery? Thank you so much. I wish I was introduced to this hobby a long time ago.
Yep, it just replaces the 2.4V battery and never needs replacement. I've never know then to go up in flames either!

Is it like a BCR?
Also we’re can you purchase them? Also do I need different types for different MTH locomotives? Because after this I am going to replace the rest of mine! I don’t want my family and myself to be a statistic!!
chefmarket69,
Understandable that body repairs & painting aren't your thing. Considering the engine still runs, it looks like you got off easy. It's probably just a freak incident. I did see a nice NS shell for sale on a popular auction site, but since your interest is in CSX $45.00 might be a little high. If you should find a replacement you'd be happy with, I'd be willing to buy your damaged shell.
Good luck,
Joe
Joe,
I hope I can find the same shell, fingers crossed but who knows. If I do yes it is all yours!! Th k you for all of the input!!!
Cool. I keep my eyes open also.

Exactly like a BCR. The BCR2 contains exactly what I pictured, a 5.4V Supercap and a connector. The 9V BCR for 5V boards has multiple supercaps and Zener diodes.

Yes, you have to determine which board each has, rectangular charging port signifies 3V board and round charging port signifies the 5V board.

OK.........chef.......seems to run well enough ........sounds seem to be spot on..........address remembered on the devices !??!🤔 No BCR or battery ??? . 🤤
Hey GRJ , I don't get it ........why does it do all of this without a BCR or battery ?
Looking at the video which shows what looks like a 3 volt ps2 board without a battery makes me wonder if this is some kind of UFO / 3volt ps2 / ps3
PS/2 will run fine with DCS without a battery or supercap. What it won't do it do a factory reset or remember it's ID if it suddenly loses power. Also, even a momentary glitch in power without a battery will stop it and it'll come up in conventional mode.
Thank you so much for the help, also it makes me smile and laugh. Which does take away my pain and sadness of the body being ruined. At most I could leave the body like this and have a good story for my friends! My kids got scared and ran into another room. I showed them what to do if this happens again. We always run our trains together as a dad and kids time!!

Hey chef , this looks like an excellent idea from ironman 😉
I've looked everywhere , even some local areas and these CSX switchers are not to be found 🤔
Good luck
Dallas yes it does and thank you for the follow up and Iron man also!!
Update I checked the charge circuit voltage and it was between 2-3 volts and installed a BCR . We will see

Another update Csx switcher is back on the tracks and running perfectly. Only one last thing to take care of is the body!! If anyone knows of one can you please let me know. Thank you so much!!
