Otto Mears, famous for his three mining narrow gauge roads out of Silverton, Colorado, and the Rio Grande Southern of Galloping Goose fame, had his ashes spread on the mountain above Silverton. I wonder where are buried General Palmer, of the D&RGW, and Moffat, of the tunnel and the Denver and Salt Lake? I don't now remember the prominent figures in the histories of the Colorado Midland, and the Denver, South Park, and Pacific but perhaps they are interred in Colorado?

In all my reading of railroad histories, that is something I never gave a thought to. That is a great idea to research. Perhaps go a step further, and try to locate the final resting places of the actual workers.
With all the railside burials in the construction of Central Pacific and Union Pacific to reach Promontory, and all those along pioneer wagon routes like the Oregon trail, you'd think there would be more grave discoveries getting police and news attention, with modern construction. My grandfather's Kentucky farm had two old cemeteries on it, one of unknown pioneers marked by flat illegible creek stones, and one a well marked old family cemetery, both across fields from the house, this last so far l only visited it once as a kid.
