Hello
I have a K-Line K3400-001CC Shay with no sounds at all. It does run forward and reverse. I'm not sure which of the four boards is the sound board. Can it be replaced? Nice engine and runs really well. Picture of the boards attached.
Thank you.

Well, the sound board isn't in your picture, so you might actually show that. It has two square chips on it, the labels on those are important.
The last one is the sound board, but I need to know what is printed on each of the square socketed chips on either side of the board.
I'd check the speaker and see if it measures around 8 ohms, then check all the wiring.
You can put the sound boards in a similar vintage Lionel or K-Line engine with TMCC one at a time to test them.
Swapping board to test and find out what is wrong. You can move the Power Supply board and RS 4 board to a another Lionel RS 4 tender or engine that works and verify if the boards work or which is bad. If boards are good it is wiring or speaker. Once you figure out what does not work, you can repair it. Power Supply boards are pretty common. If it is the RS board with chips, you can swap chip and figure out if a chip is bad or the board itself. G
First step is to reprogram the engine with the proper feature code. That should be in your manual. Also hit AUX1 button followed by 1. Most all K-line audio boards are generic steam. Not sure Lionel offered a specific shay board to them but for testing any RS4 or 5 board should work.

That K-Line is one of those odd ducks which have the male pins on the R2LC - only ones I've ever seen have that. Hopefully it is the power sound board - if so easy and common fix for RS 4 devices.

Actually, the K-Line tank engines all have that configuration as well. I went so far as to make myself an R2LC with the pins on the R2LC so I could substitute, and I have a little adapter to plug the K-Line oddball into my test rig.
I pulled the Sound card and here are the labels: Side one: RS27S012
Side two: ATLAN_F
