Hey all,
Im curious if anyone knows how active the rail line at York is. The line is operated by Genesse and Wyoming, so it is a short line, but from previous years I know that I have heard a few trains.
Thanks,

Seems like right around 10am every year on Friday that horn is blowing.....
There is the old PRR/Amtrak/NS main line in Lancaster.
Steam into history is just south of York, wish they run the 4-4-0 from Wednesday to Saturday on York week and coordinate operation with the TCA event.
Strasburg is also about a half hour or so away.
Another reason I miss the Green Hall. If you were there and heard the train you could walk outside to watch it.
I have no idea what time you might see one this week. Don't think they have any strict schedule.
While www.railfanguides.us/pa/york is a little dated for info, infrastructure info and maps are still useful to orient yourself.
NS yard (Windsor St.) is in northeast side of the city, right under I-83. G&W interchanges here.
G&W Lincoln Yard is in West York, follow RT462 west from fairgrounds, highway crosses west end of yard.
G&W interchanges with CSX at Porter's Siding, about 6 miles east of Hanover, using the former WM York branch.
Largest customer is the paper mill in Spring Grove between York and Hanover. X-PRR is OOS between Bair and Hanover.
In Hanover, CSX yard and former engine terminal is on Center St.
Checking both yards, then Spring Grove and then Porter's/Hanover should find something moving on a weekday.

From my table in the blue hall I often hear the York Railway (subsidiary of the G&W) going past several times during the meet. You can see it from the windows at the South end of the Blue Hall.

Being in the alcove in the Blue Hall, I have noticed that 2-3 trains a day go by on Thursday and Friday. I can't remember if any have gone by on Saturdays, tho.
Andy
Andy, because you’re so busy with customers on Saturday?
