My son got one of the Railking Abraham Lincoln 4-6-0 trains for Christmas. He wants me to reletter it for the Walter E. Disney. After close examination of the tender it appears to me that these were painted for the Walter E. Disney before they were either decaled over or painted over. I can actually make at the Disney logo and name under the paint. Anyone know the story behind these?

This the link to the guy who made his ten wheeler into a Disney Ten Wheeler. He also said you can use his photos to convert it over

He also explained to me the following:

The deal was that originally MTH got the contract with Walt Disney World to produce Railking models of the Baldwin 10 wheeler Walter E. Disney, the contract fell through because of MTH manufacturing trains over in Taiwan or Korea(One or the other).

Now with that being said, the locomotives that they painted for the Walt Disney World railroad where repainted into the "president series" 10 wheelers and the "Great American circus" series.

On The locomotives if you hold the cold tender sideways into the light you can see the Walt Disney World Railroad crest underneath the paint. Also when you look at the Styrofoam liner on the trains in the corner where would identify what train was in the box you will see WDWRR indicating it was supposed to be a Walt Disney World railroad locomotive.

As you can tell I took the idea and made my own I really wish MTH would do that because they had a really fantastic model. And I did talk to a couple of my friends that work for the railroad up there and MTH did model there 10 wheelers directly off the Baldwin locomotives in the park. I just wish they would've made one for Roger Broggie(Other Ten Wheeler).

I purchased the Great American Circus version a few years ago with the intention of making a decal for the tender but I've been afraid to ruin a such beautiful engine with a poor looking decal.

Great observation Scott as I never noticed the Disney lettering/logo under the paint until you mentioned it.

If anyone creates a template I would be interested in purchasing a set of decals.

Chris

Hello everyone.  I just recently picked up one of these engines and would like to get it looking like the Park engine. I know this is an older thread but I wanted to know if anyone had any luck removing the Circus or Presidents paint to expose the original WDWRR paint? Or does anyone have a decal image file they would be willing to share with me for the tender and cab sides? I cannot access the ones on the other forum.

Thanks,

-Ryan

I just listened to the Podcast from Notch 6.  It was about the MTH  2018 V1 catalog.  There's a discussion with one of the MTH higher-ups regarding the abandonment of the Disney train.

The issue seemed to have concerned MTH's passing Disney's conditional standards (like no child labor).  Disney dragged the process out through such a tedious process that MTH decided it wasn't worth it any more and abandoned the project.

So, by inference, could that MTH higher-up be suggesting the factory making MTH' s trains possibly be using child labor to build our beloved MTH trains -- children making childrens' trains???

The MTH official did not infer that they used child labor at all.  It was just an example of a Disney hoop to jump through.  It's like in my world in pharmaceuticals.

The FDA has the pharmaceutical company go through a long and drawn out process.  Longer than might need be at times.  Sometimes the company abandons the process due to the process.
