i have several railking and imperial steamers and love them. Most ps2 but 1 die hard ps1 that still runs as good as new. I have 1 articulated engine a lionmaster a 2-6-6-4 that is awesome but quirky sometimes when running. I want a second articulated steams but not sure what would run and look good. I was thinking a railking nw y6 2-8-8-2 but wonder if it would look small. Also thinking the rk big boy but worry if the overhang is much more than my class a it would cause issues. Wondering what others have and what they think.

thanks forum members!!

I have a RK  Y6b mallet with PS2.   It's reliable and always runs fine.  I bought it about 10 or so years ago on Ebay.  It looks OK on my tightest curve 0-32 which is really one of two exposed curves.... the other is O-42 and it looks fine rounding that curve.    Most of my curves ( 0- 42 and 0-54 ) are in tunnels so the overhang is not a problem.

I hope this info helps you out, Good luck with choosing your new articulated locomotive.

Andrew - I've had a couple of Railking Y's. My newest one is the 2012 version and it's a very good runner. The Railking Y's are just about the same size as the Lionmaster Class A. Here's a comparison shot.

I'm digging the super O track!.......nice!......sorry, couldn't help myself..I do hope you enjoy your new articulated piece!

The best running locomotives on my railroad are Rail King articulateds. However, the Cab Forward has a very large overhang that has wiped out a lot of scenery. The overhang of the cab is so large that the Cab Forward cannot enter a Lionel girder bridge that is at the tangent of a curve.

These articulateds run smoothly through 031 and 042 curves, and groups of 042 siding switches. I highly recommend the Rail King Y6b and the NYC USRA 2-8-8-2.
