I've had a long time lust for one of these locomotives - NYC certainly got the styling right when they built them. Found one on that auction website and was wondering if any of you have an opinion on them or own one and could tell me about it. I don't need another locomotive right now so it's not that pressing... But this one ticks all the boxes for me, especially being O27.

I was in the same boat you were as I really love streamlined locomotives and anything that goes in and out of Chicago. I was eyeing the RK version for a long time, but recently just found a Premier PS3 version on consignment at my local hobby shop for a super good price and I jumped on it. Both the RK and PM are beautiful engines and I really don't think you go wrong on this. I would say that price is pretty decent for the description.

Not much to worry about, here. MTH builds good stuff, the loco is a shrunken-but-plausible model of the best-looking steamer ever (OK, this or the Empire State Hudson), and if my experiences with my long-ago-sold RailKing Empire State version of the same basic platform is any indication, you will enjoy it. (I sold it because I have 072 curves and, you know, a used 1:48 version just spoke to me.)

They say "go big or go home". Nah; if you can't go big, go small.

It was my 1st "modern" O locomotive, and I do not regret buying it.  It keeps going and going, no matter the abuse it has had.  I "upgraded" mine to the disk wheels by swapping the chassis with a ESE locomotive as that's the look I love the best.  The next thing I do to it will be to upgrade it to TMCC or DCC, and to add cab and tail lights.
