Hi I was wondering if anyone was using this system to operate there O scale loco's. It seems to have some good sound files, but Im not sure what frequency it uses 2.4mhz or blue tooth or in the 900mhz band?? It also seems to lend its self well to battery power. The youtub videos Ive found are mostly HO operators but I thought I found at least on in O, Im just wondering if there boards can handle O scale AMP's. If you are using this R/C system Id love to here what you think of it.   Thanks Stephen     cTr....(Choose the Right )

At the moment Railpro's receivers (equivalent of a DCC chip) only has a 1.5 or 2 amp load capability and If I remember correctly that's only for peak usage not continuous.  This isn't to say you couldn't use railpro for a small 2 axle shunting loco but the amp load of larger O scale locomotives would overload the circuitry in a heartbeat.

Now what I will say is contact Ring engineering and ask them if they have a higher amperage receiver in development as even if they say no, they may very well have an alternative solution for you.

Hi Stephen, as the other message stated RailPro does not currently have a large scale module. The good news is they are working on one. I am attending the O scale East Convention and will demonstrate the RailPro system using battery power.

The radio operates on 2.4GHz. and current handling is 800ma.  The Large Scale module is planned to handle 6 amps for any larger scale.

Thanks for asking, Don

I have three switch engines setup with RailPro and battery power.  One is a old Alco S2 that is re-motored with a Canon FN30 and it runs/works great.  The battery will last many hours.  The second is a Atwater F3 also re-motored with a Canon FN30.  Runs good but the top speed is a bit low for use on the main line.  The third one is a Atlas SW7.  The current draw is really too high for the decoder.  Anything more than scale walking speed and the decoder will shut down due to heat.  Fortunately no damage to the decoder due to the thermal protection built into the decoder.  Overall I like the system but it has limited use for O scale (efficient motor=good, cheap high current draw motor=bad).  When/if they come out with a large scale decoder, I would recommend it for O scale.
