Hey Alan - thats a really good initiative and something that other countries should adopt as the rail industry is expanding everywhere. Here in the Uk a number of our operators and/or service providers have been offering new apprentiships for some time as a way of getting new "young blood" into a railway career but I am not aware of a focus on ex service personel.
I think I will write to the Prime Minister about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good news.
I'm an old vet now, and not looking for work, but very mindful of how the young guys returning home feel when they can't find a job. This news is very positive for them, and good for the railroads to get good hard working men and women who know about going the extra mile and not complaining about it.

a great initiative. the private sector should be doing more of this too.
Great program. Nice to someone taking care of our vets.
i've been in the air force for the last 6 years, i have been tossing the idea around of getting out, to move back up to PA... i know NS has been hiring alot of vets.
i'm doing an air traffic control course now, if this doesnt work out i may look towards them, theres a young guy in my class who just left them as a conductor... he mentioned it and i had said "HEY THATS AWESOME, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW HERITAGE ES44 LOCOMOTIVES?
his responce was... "Oh No, you must be a rail fan".... he said if i ever went in for an interview Never to mention it... haha a red flag.
