Contact Lionel, I believe you have to swap the board to get a new one.

Thanks
That's the RS 5.0 board, not sure if it's compatible with the RS 5.5 chips. I have that one, I was looking for a 5.5 board.
4 were original ones, 5 was the improved with extra features for tender, and 6.0 is totally different board design.
Always best to ask, but I believe the 5.0 blank is the same as the 5.5.

I don't happen to have a 5.5 board out of an engine, so I can't compare them as far as the boards.
Look the same in Lionel pictures. G
I find that's not necessarily a 100% positive thing. Many times they use generic pictures for similar product.
Great, and I picked up a tidbit as well, now I know. I keep a 5.0 board around as I've had board failures occasionally, and the 5.0 chips don't work in the 4.0 boards.

John, they have been selling the boards outright for a while now. Be safe and order the board your engine calls for.
I know that Marty, my "doubt" was I didn't know if the RS 5.5 used the same board as the RS 5.0. Since it does, problem solved. There is no RS 5.5 bare board listed, that makes sense now that I know it's the same as the RS 5.0 board. I could have taken something apart to see, but that seemed to be be more trouble than I wanted to go to answer the question.
