I have a Lionel c420 New Haven 2556 Locomotive that I only use this time of year. I bought it for my son a few years ago, to add to the set that my father bought for me and the pre-war set his father bought for him. I run all these trains with an upgraded KW Transformer and have never had any problems, the local train shop said the engine sounds and whistle/bell would work fine. He was right and everything did up until this year, now the C420 doesn't make a peep but the fan driven exhaust still works. When I opened the locomotive up the the antenna post was snapped and the wire that was soldered to it was loose. I made the assumption that the railsounds power supply could had shorted on the wire and I ordered a new board. I re-seated the other 2 boards in case of corrosion and replaced the power supply. Still no sound. The rail sounds switch is in the correct position, the volume is all the way up and if the speaker had suddenly gone bad you would usually hear some sort of noise but there isn't even a crackle. All the other soldering and wires seem to be fine. Should I just replace the railsounds board as well? Do these "go bad"? Does anyone have any thoughts? I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this long winded topic!!
