CSX 18251 ...Railsounds won't start up after sitting for a few months. It has horn, bell, smoke and no problem running...just no sounds. What do I need?

On page 6 of the manual, it states there is a Sound/No Sound switch under the truck opposite of the PGM/RUN and SMK switches. Make sure it is in SND. No SND will silence the prime mover sounds.
Have you inadvertently hit the manual kill switch, assuming you've tried increasing the volume with your remote?
Have tried resetting and programming, no luck. I just get this pssh, no sound. all switches in proper positions, not new to command control.
I’m not sure I understand what you’re experiencing. You said that you have horn and bell sounds? Am I correct that you were hearing some sounds, but not all the sounds you expect? If this is right can you please explain more clearly which sound you are not hearing. Could be your “blend” settings.

I've learned not to assume anything. Switches are always a good place to start. I'm with Rudy. I think we need a clearer picture. Although I believe this is an older unit before the ability to blend the sounds was available.
The way I read it, you have horn/bell sounds but no start up(prime mover)sounds.
I first would try exercising the railsounds/signal sounds switch back and forth a few times, maybe oxidation on the contacts. If that does nothing for it, next would be removing the shell and try pulling and reseating the railsounds board or try a different board. The last resort would be pulling and reseating the chips on the board which you need a PLCC extraction tool.
Let us know,Doug
Thanks gentlemen....I have no diesel running sounds....I did remove the cover and I did move the boards around somewhat thinking it could be oxidation and reset, reprogrammed but still no running sounds, only bells, horn and smoke working and motors running.
Railsounds...I have never heard of blend sounds referenced before?
That is usually the RS/SS switch, that stands for Rail Sounds or Signal Sounds. Signal Sounds is whistle/bell and Rail Sounds is the full sound set. You moved the boards, did you actually look for and check the RS/SS switch?
Boy do I feel like a jerk....it was the sound switch, everything working again! Thanks for all the help, God Bless America
Well, you described the function of the SS/RS switch perfectly, so it seemed like a good fit!

Don't. Heck, I've had TMCC since it first came out, and now have it, Legacy, and DCS. Let me tell you, there are many times I overlook the obvious in my rush to figure out something. You're not alone

I had something similar with a locomotive. No chug sounds but both bell and whistle. Crewtalk also worked. Turned out to be wire in drawbar was bad.
Rails52 - Don't feel embarrassed as we've all been there at one time or another. The most important thing is that you got your rail sounds to work again! So Enjoy!!

No need to feel bad. The best fixes are the easy ones. The only "jerks" are the folks who don't follow up posting the solution to a problem no matter how trivial.
This forum has become a huge file of O guage information over the years. Theres a good chance this thread will help some other hobbyist down the road, without you even knowing.
