my latest project is a piece me together Premeir USRA Pacific I picked up to build into one locomotive....while test running the unit on the rollers, this idea popped into my head as I watched the engineer and fireman locked in their chairs with no movement at all...maybe this has been done before, I don’t know...but I really like the way it came out...I did the fireman first, now that I know I can make this happen easily and cheap...I’ll do the engineer next...some before and after, and a short video showing some motion of the fireman...whatcha all think?..........Pat

Looks like he had a little too much coffee. Great idea to have the cab crew move and not just be glued to their seats. Nice job.
Well it's an interesting start. Now all you have to do is get the engineer to pull the throttle back and forth just like that o scaler did with his cb&q northern!

He does have the jitters on the rollers.....I’ll have to see how he does on the rails......it’ll be interesting.....Pat
THAT......................................... is one fantastic idea!
I have a newly-acquired steamer with a fireman and engineer figures, and it kinda' drives me nuts to watch them stiffly sitting in the cab of a bouncing, huffing, puffing, and chuffing steam locomotive with absolutely no motion whatsoever by the crew. Might as well have motionless and expressionless crash-test dummies sittin' in there instead of a railroad crew.
Watching your video with movement by the fireman brings a lot of believability that there really is a live person sitting in cab, in my opinion. I'll bet visitors will do a double-take on that one!
I believe that's called Yankee Ingenuity! You better hurry up and patent that before someone else does. What a splendid idea.

You right Chief....US patent # 3346732212....The But Spring............Pat
Excellent. I like it.
That spring implant procedure has got to hurt....
Very cool idea!
I remember an article YEARS ago about an Engineer on a switching engine (H0 scale) that turned his head when the train reversed. IIRC, the head was cut off, the body drilled out, the head was mounted onto a rod and then the protruding end attached to some kind of gear or cam which was then hooked to a small solenoid from a turnout and wired to the motor (DC of course). Thought it was a pretty cool idea back then.
I just got the lights going, so pretty soon I’ll try and video Mr. Jitters the fireman, and his engineer buddy going down the rails on the layout.....I’ll do my ****dest to video that.......Pat
I don't see anything, does he just jerks around from the spring?
