The little Vulcan coal-fired steam switcher was visiting our local Tennessee Central Railroad Museum for several days on the occasion of our 25th Anniversary Celebration. Today was member day, and we could sign up for 30 minute runs - mine was at 8:30 this morning. We had one coach, so I had to operate the train brake to control the train, while bailing off the independent brake after each application. This loco has a manual ("armstrong") reverse, and a throttle with a lot of "dead" space upfront. Did not take long to feel comfortable with it, as I have run and fired both ex-SR 630 and 722 steam locos at TVRM in past years.
I get another turn at the throttle on Sunday, June 1 at 9 AM!
Lots of fun while getting my "steam fix"!
