Did a search by typing in Ravenna. Hard to believe nothing came up. Surely I can't be the first to mention this on the forum??? I drove by there yesterday and seen autoracks in the backyard of a local resident. Interesting watching on youtube. Very very thankful noone was injured or killed.  Any thoughts on what caused this?

Cold weather has set in, at least temporarily.  Steel expands and contracts with changes in temperature, sometimes allowing small fissures to be expanded.  It would not be a surprise if the temperature was a contributing factor.

However a professional investigation by officials trained in this will be the only way to asses a direct cause and contributing causes.  Maybe something will be revealed publicly, in the next few days.

For those interested, enter 'Ravenna Train Derailment' into Google, and you will get 8 pages of results, including video links as jini5 mentioned.

If not mistaken this happened Tuesday night. We have been in the low 70's up until Friday. This is not really unusual for NE Ohio weather. Today I am seeing the first snow flurries of the season. Some of the youtube vids show cleanup crews in t shirts. Number 90 you are correct that only trained officials can make a determination on the cause.
