I am hoping that one of the many knowledgeable collectors who read this post will be able to answer the questions a have about the Lionel Scout boxcar.  I know that Lionel manufactured four boxcars that looked identical with a blue body and an orange door in 1996-97, except for the wording, as follows:

1. 6-19947 LC 9700 Toy Fair 1996 (BLT 1-96) that came in a special blue box

2. 6-29200 LC 9700 LRRC 1996 (BLT 4-97) that came in the regular orange and blue box

3. 6-19953 LC 6464-97 LRRC 1997 (BLT 10-97) that came in the regular orange and blue box

4. LC 9700 Scout (BLT 8-96)

As you can see from the information that is not listed for the Scout boxcar, I cannot find a specific 6-_____ item number for it and I have never seen it in a box.  Does the Scout boxcar have an item number, and if so, what is it?  Does the Scout boxcar have a box?  If the there is a box, please describe.  Was this boxcar possibly part of a set, which would explain the lack of an item number and no box?

Thank you Brian for the link to the e-Train article.  As I suspected, the Lionel Scout boxcar was from a set (6-11910 Lionel Lines Set 1113WS).  In reading the article, a specific product number of 16269 was mentioned for the boxcar and I do not see that number anywhere on the boxcar from photos on eBay.  Also, I was under the impression that no specific product number is assigned to an item when it is part of a set and when there is no individual box for it within the set.  Usually there are no individual boxes in sets, except on the high-end sets; I would not consider the 6-11910 Lionel Lines Set 1113WS to be a high-end set.  I could be mistaken on many points and I will try to get in contact with the author of the article, Mr. Mintz, to get clarification.
