A freiend has a UP 2-8-0 ps2 out of a set and wants to sell it,can you advise a price.
He does not have the equipement to check the milage etc.

If its an RTR set with track etc, perhaps about half the set MSRP?

Those are pretty sparse locomotives but the PS2 innards can be useful for other projects if you're so inclined. You see these on eBay for $135 - $200.
Some shops sell the PS-2 engines from a "set break-up" for between $175-$200, but they are new and it doesnt happen very often.
That engine MSRP was $249.95. That model has been around since the beginning, and was equipped with the early 5 volt boards as well as the later 3 volt boards. It's resale value should be better if it is the later 3 volt version.
If someone with DCS could check the mileage, that would be helpful. Regardless, if it is in excellent condition, my estimate(as others have offered) would be about 50% of the original retail.
About 50%, mileage will bring in a little more as the Buyer would make a better decision.
I got one at the LHS New from a breakup last year. $150
And it's not the most detailed engine by far, but a good runner.

James, he could ask more for it in the UK, shipping costs add to train prices as you very well know, so an extra 20-30 quid would be reasonable.
