Just received the new Santa Fe F3 SuperBass B-unit today. I was curious how the plating would look like since no photos or samples existed. You'll be happy to know that Lionel did a great job with the finish. It has just the right sheen. Not chrome like at all. I snapped a few photos which are tough to take but you get the idea. There were a few minor issues that I had on mine. You might want to inspect yours upon delivery. The electro-coupler was loose as shown in photos below. I need to remove the steps and swing the coupler out so I could tighten the coupler - no problem fixed. The removable hatch on top does not fit flush. The volume pot seems to high and hits the hatch. It does have two magnets but should fit a little better. The last thing I noticed is the coupler length is longer on one side (with electrocoupler) vs the dummy coupler side. I attached a photo. Its noticeable. I'm still waiting for the F3's to ship.

Looks awesome. I’ve got an ABBA coming and am now looking even more towards their arrival at Mr Muffins. Thanks for posting the pics!
Mr Muffin IS shipping waiting for a tracking confirmation.
I picked up my ABBA set yesterday. Looks and sounds great. Yes the rear couplers are a little longer resulting in a difference in the gap after the B units compared to the gap between the front A and B units.
Here is the full set pulling a long freight. Now if I just had some Santa Fe 21 inch passenger cars???
Two nit picks so far. The rear A unit has a noisy smoke fan. Back to Lionel with that one. Also the B units do not have a sensor so had to add the Legacy information manually in the LCS. (Wish there was an orange module)

How are the Superbass sounds?
Look nice. As asked, how does the Super Bass sound?
Was hoping they would model the stainless steel sides as the units were produced, with a polished, mirror like finish. It's the reason they appear black in some images. I'm now very hesitant to place an order for the PA's, they should be just like the 18" aluminum Santa Fe cars. Even if 347C is a "fooby", you can see the mirror like stainless panels.

Hmmmm. I know the LHS has a few of these on order. Might have to take a good look at them.
Looks great! The stainless paneling is very nicely done. Looking forward to the Rio Grande Aspen PA/PB units. Anyway It would be great to hear a demo of it by itself. I'm thinking of adding a super bass b unit in pennsy for my geep lash up.
Thanks for the photos & video
The sound from the SuperBass is much fuller and has a real low rumble. Here is a comparison of the A and B unit horns.
Is the super bass B unit powered? I am wondering ... may just purchase one and use the chassis in my older TMCC units.

They do not have motors. Just the additional SUper Bass sound electronics.
There are two different B units. The powered one and the SuperBass.
They sound good... I always chuckle when I see the same ole gimpy little air hoses on these things
The worst of the "defects" to me is the different length couplers. I think I'll just remove the electrocoupler and replace it with a standard coupler so they're the same length on both ends.
It is very bothersome to me to see Lionel continuing to deliver items that are defective, it makes me reluctant order any more items.
Is this the new normal?

You should be.

Only if the consumer allows it. If you buy it, where is the incentive for Lionel to: Do It Right?

Has been for a couple years now
FYI, if you are looking for this and find it, buy it. I bought the last one from Mr. Muffin and was told Lionel and the distributor are out. I'm glad my impatience go the better of me and I bought it this morning. On to York!
Has anyone figured out what electrocoupler to order so they are an even length?
Don't know what coupler they used on that set. On the Lionel F7's from a few years back which couple together with one inch between the units themselves. About a quarter inch between the curtains on the units. They used part #6208447550 coil coupler/MNT C/ length 1.44". They were ten dollars a piece from Lionel. They look good with these couplers hopefully they still stock them.
Gweedo, The part number you listed is the same part number they have on the b unit parts breakdown. Thanks for the information!
Cool glad it worked out.
