Per RYPN, Strasburg has sold 1187 to the Age of Steam group. Maybe she’ll be restored one day!

Really sad to see this engine leave the area, was hoping that SRC would sell/donate it to RRMPA once they had built the roundhouse.

With the condition thats its in now, RRMPA would have probably scrapped it especially if they got it as a donation. Its not the first time since the RRMPA scrapped a unique piece of railroad equipment, they did scrap the last PRR MP54 and the pioneer I mu cars.

My understanding was that the roundhouse was going to house PRR steamers exclusively.

George, you are correct! I apologize as I wasn't clear in my post; I meant that once RRMPA has completed the roundhouse project (and the 'stabilization of the PRR steamers'), they will have the ability to focus their attention on other things, for instance acquiring new pieces.
As a side note, RRMPA did an 'ask me anything' online event earlier in the quarantine; during which they stated that they do have a collection plan (list of pieces they wish to acquire in the future) and a Reading T1 is in the plan. While it's kind of self-explanatory, they said it basically comes down to the availability of the engine and them having space. As we learned with 1187, asking for something might make it available .
For whatever reasons Strasburg decided to deaccess the 1187, there's no denying it's going to a good home.

Could you send me a link to this “As Us Anything” page? It would be quite interesting if 2101 was rescued and brought to her home state. 3/4 of the T1’s would be back in PA.

Here is the link to the specific question about Reading T1s:

Here is the link to the overall 'ask us anything', theres a few basic questions but theres also a lot of in-depth questions about their collection:
The Strasburg Virtual Railfan cam is covering the loading of this engine and tender onto lowboy trailers this morning (7/31/2020 @ 09:03 EDT).

"Plans" are fine, but what about funding? All the plans in the world are useless unless you've got the funds to carry out the plan.
The Age of Steam Roundhouse has the financial resources to make just about anything happen in this industry, thanks to the legacy and the substantial endowment left by its founder, the late Jerry Jacobson.

Thanks for posting this. By the time I got there the engine had already been loaded but I did get to see the tender get loaded. Went very quickly from my point of view - looked like the crew had a pretty good handle on what they were doing. I stopped watching just as the semi with the (remains of) the loco was pulling out. Got tired of the whiners in the chat bemoaning the fact that the relic was leaving its home state.

I agree plans are highly dependent on funding; in my comment, I was mostly relaying what RRMPA had said during their Q&A. Also, this was an aside referencing the possibility of RRMPA acquiring a Reading T1 (not the 1187 which was in AOS's 'collection plan'... according to their press release, they have been eying it up for years). I posted the link to the specific question and response from RRMPA staff in an earlier post, here it is again:

While funding always plays a huge role, they do not talk about it in their response.
Edit: RRMPA also spoke about their procurement process in this link, here they do talk about the funds needed for transporting it.
VRF posted a video of the load out on You Tube.
