Just got back from the local hobby shop, where they unpacked and tested the new Lionel Lima Berk. This one was lettered for the Illinois Central, and certainly is a stunning model. Upon track testing, the sounds where EXCELLENT. It didn't take any of us very long to discover exactly why there really is no "whistle steam effect".

The model has NO WHISTLE mounted any place on the boiler! Not even a place to mount one, so it didn't fall off in the box.

Yes. My K-Line B&A Berk has no whistle either, however the bell is located on its own bracket, just to the right (Engineer's side) of the stack.

As a side note, the owners manual for the new Lionel Lima Berk, in the box, says NOTHING about adding smoke fluid to a "whistle steam effect" port.

In that larger photo, it looks like the whistle is mounted on top of that super heated steam delivery pipe from the superheater header, rearward to the turret. That sure looks like a whistle, mounted and leaning towards the stack.

Now, about that "12 axle tender"!
