My understanding is that REALTRAX solid rail and hollow rail aren’t compatible. If that is correct, did MTH make a transition section, allowing the 2 types to be connected?

I use both together in many areas with no issues. Can't see why they would make that change if they weren't compatible.
Ok so my premise is wrong, and they are compatible as produced, without any adapters or additional specialty track? Thanx for prompt reply.
Yessir, that's correct. They snap together and work just fine. The only difference, on one the rails are solid, and the other is hollow. Cost savings no doubt. No adapters or specialty track needed. I was disappointed at first with the newer version (Crying about being cheaper) but the difference is not really there once the track is laid. And half the weight when packing and storing (Christmas Layout).
I have both and they are completely interchangeable.
Thanks you both for your answers.
Don’t be too hasty here
I have used hollow rail that had to be tweaked in order to function correctly with solid rail.
I had just wired that turnout for remote use-my first ever controlled with the toggle..and when I put the track back together, I didn’t ensure the hollow rail of the O-42 curve aligned with the solid rail of the O-42 turnout.
And I almost paid the price
Fortunately I caught the engine before it had to come to that solid stop that gravity had in store for it😁
I recommend a test run and adjustment of the hollow rail if necessary
Enjoy my pain😁
