Didn't get any Traction in the MTH forum, so I'll try here...

Now that Christmas is over, I'm going to transition from "running" the trains to "troubleshooting" what's broken.  I found one of my realtrax switch boxes only PULLS the points, and won't PUSH them.  This behavior is consistent on several different pieces of track and on both sides of the track piece, and all the switches work fine when I swap in another switch motor box.   I'm pretty confident I've isolated the issue.

Upon opening the troublesome box, it's so darn simple I'm surprised it can fail - has anyone seen this before? If so, what's the fix? Is this something I can fix with a soldering iron or do I need to replace the solenoids?

Any/all suggestions welcome.

I had one of my 17 Realtrax switches give me a problem .

It also would pull but wouldn't  push.  I was able to move the wires that go to the electrical connectors in the switch box so that the solenoid plunger was not interfered with and was able to fully extend.

Also possibly the alignment of the  rotating gear apparatus should be in sync to allow full movement back and forth of the plunger  !?

Do you have a meter than can measure "Ohms" resistance?  If so, I suggest measuring the Ohms of the 4 coils.

For the Realtrax solenoid-plunger turnouts I've seen,  coils 1 and 3 "pull" the two plungers away from the track, coils 2 and 4 "push" the two plungers toward the track.

Perhaps from visual inspection or poking around with a toothpick you can find a bad/loose solder joint and repair it for nothing.  But if there's a break internal to a coil winding then I suppose you could replace a coil but they seem riveted (in this version anyway) which I'd think would be quite the hassle.
