My sister gave me an Athearn HO Coca-Cola train set. Like new, but it doesn't fit my layout. So...
I've been repainting them for the Reading. Not done yet, but getting there, struggle as I may with spray paint. I already have an F-unit in the Reading black-with-green stripe scheme, so I decided to make the F7 into the yellow-and-green that is a fantasy scheme where these diesels are concerned, if I understand correctly. My inspiration was partly an early AHM FM C-liner that was done in this scheme. The colors aren't correct, but since no F-units were done in this scheme anyway, my cover story is that this is an early test paint by the company before changes in color were implemented on later generation diesels.
There weren't any number boards on this, so I'm going to paint them black and use Microscale decal numbers from the sheet I already have. I'll probably paint the pilot black and use the yellow-black stripe decals on it.
In the process of removing paint from the reefer I somehow managed to knock off all of the end stirrup steps, so I tried to replace them but ended up knocking them off too, so it's gonna stay as it is.
For the TOFC I added edge rails and end bridge ramps and painted the deck, and trailer and its underbody details to look a little more realistic.
When these are done I think I'll repaint the set's caboose for Reading, too.
