I got the engine in the mail yesterday, but the box says "Optionally equipped with ProtoSound" and "Equipped with Electronic Whistle". I fear that the engine does not have the sounds I want. If it doesn't, is there a way I can upgrade it to utilize ProtoSound?

You would need the Protosound boards. Look up GGG on these forums, he should be able to help you out.
My mom and I checked the listing again. The seller said it has PS1, and they said they put in a new battery, so I think it probably has the sounds I want. We messaged them just in case though.
Just realized that other versions exist that don't come with the Proto Sound sticker on the box, I think we have what we want.
