Could anyone recommend me sum good books on maintenance and repair of MTH proto 2 locomotives. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe there are any out there. Other than changing light bulbs and oiling, MTH does not want the 'average Joe consumer' digging into the locomotives because of the delicate and complex electronics in PS-2 engines. They recommend taking your engines to a MTH service center.

Is that the reason Mike does not give any info on MTH locomotives???? Are you sure that`s the reason????
Pretty much. PS-2 equipment can have issues with any of the following ways:
mechanical
electrical (wiring harness, loose connections)
electronic (component failure on a board or issues with board seating)
software
The first two are common to PW equipment, the third covers most modern equipment including TMCC. The fourth is pretty unique to MTH.
A large number of times the issues with a PS-2 engine are software issues. The board is fine, the programming information stored in the boards is the issue. The training and tools necessary to successfully and easily repair this equipment is not something a typical repair manual can cover. You have to know when to wipe and how to reload and have the correct software and computer interface (as well as the appropriate files).
