Your name might not be Max and the photo might not be of you, for all I know. You likewise have no way to know if my info is correct, either.
We're still anonymous, whether we post names and/or photos, or not.

Some people need to think about what they write. Have a read back through his posts. We're all putting out points, but he has to be confrontational.

Max has a great point--there is no reason to be confrontational. It's not what you say but how you say it. When you put others down to make your point, that says much more about you than it does about them.

Thanks to all who responded. I apologize for my absence during the discussion. After posting my question, I had the great idea to upgrade my operating system and took my iMac to the Apple store. It was upgraded in less than 2 hours. When I got home and turned on the computer, the system was totally dissimilar to my Snow Leopard. I spent hours trying to familiarize myself with the new system and finally gave up. I took the iMac back and asked them to re-install Snow Leopard. There were problems and instead of 2 hours, it took 2 days. Then I developed a bad case of sinusitis which laid me up for several days and now, here I am.
O Scale Trains is right. I am not a camera guy, at least not now. Forty years ago, I purchased a Nikon with a f1.4 lens and a telephoto lens. I shot many rolls of film and was a pretty decent photographer. But now, I consider myself a newbie. My first choice was the Nikon D7100 but it didn't fit my wife's hands. This was to be a family camera so there were some considerations to be observed. After much discussion with the clerk at a good camera shop, we decided on a Nikon Coolpix P610. The clerk was quite knowledgeable and demonstrated the camera. It can focus down to 6", maybe a bit less and then a 60X zoom, also. A nice combination and compromise.

I've been looking at the Canon EOS and Nikon D type of cameras.

I have had a Canon EOS3(film), EOS 10D(still have it) and now use a 60D although there is a 70D now. Have taken great pictures with all 3. They seem rugged and have held up well even with my railfanning. The 60D is excellent for video, I have read. Never use it for video because I have a very good Sony for that. Can't go wrong with either brand, I have always thought Canon was more user-friendly. Lens choice is very important, too. Nikon pushes that 18-55MM lens which I think is stupid. My main lens is 18-135MM.
