I need some advice.  I'm looking to upgrade some older conventional brass steam engines, but the Railsounds options are very limited.  I have a 4-6-4 Hudson and a 4-6-2 Pacific, yet my options are generic steam, Atlantic or Nothern.  What will give me the best sound for each?  I'm asking you 3 rail scale folks as you are the most likely to have experience with what is currently used without opening anything up.

Thank you!

You want to "up-grade" them to which control system? If you are thinking about MTH DCS, then there are dozens of different sound "sets" available from the MTH website.

If you are going TMCC, then Electric Railroad Company also has a variety of different whistles.

However, I think you will get many more appropriate responses if you post on the respective MTH DCS PS2/PS3  or Lionel TMCC Forums. Those guys are the experts over there.

I guess I figured with Railsounds I was limited to Lionel's TMCC.  I'm sure I will be getting the ERR cruise commander kits unless I can convince a certain buddy of yours to part with some EOB units.  The only other sound options I found other than what I listed were an articulated sound board and SP Daylight, which I'm sure is because of the air horn.  The options really seem pretty limited.

I was only posting here because several of you have knowledge of the actual prototypes and I wanted that over electronic advice.  I toyed with both and didn't want to double post.  I don't know if I have ever heard the Generic steam or the Atlantic sounds before so I was just wondering if one of those were more appropriate for the chuffing on the Hudson or Pacific.  I already know that the whistles will be less than prototypical.  Hopefully some day that will change.

My exposure to MTH is very limited, but I have heard they have many sound options.  I'm just too deep into TMCC to change now.

Thanks!
