Question for those of you still using this product. Are you still happy with the results? I'm heading out the door to my local Home Depot to purchase a tube.

Yes
Go for it! I have been using it for years now, when I have to grease up any of my engines or accessories and even on my full size automobiles!
I have had NO problems using it. Just use it sparingly. A little bit goes a long way!
Yep, and one tube, if used just for model trains, will last pretty much until the end of time.
My prewar trains are so quiet. All I have now is the beautiful rattle of tinplate. You'll notice the difference as soon as you apply Red N Tacky. I also use Lucas' Gun Oil. It's hard to find but well worth the hunt.

Exact same experience here. I ran two 224E sets at Christmas this year and they were whisper quiet. One set(177W) was on Super-O and it was very "peaceful" gliding around the tree.
I mail-ordered a tube some time back, I expect to be buried with it, one tube should last forever!
Just how big is this tube of Red 'N Tacky? Like a caulking gun tube?
Yep, 14oz of red glop!
Thank you, John. I have to admit I am intrigued by all the testimonials for it on this forum. (Even though a Marx instruction sheet recommends Vaseline).
One tube last forever on the layout.
Also use it for greasing the cars and truck. Works great!

$6 / 14 oz. and free shipping(with Prime - an excellent value) at AMAZON.
Definitely happy with it for my trains. Smoother running than previous products I used. Picked my tube up at NAPA for $5. The tube is going to last a long time, but it gets used on automotive and lawn equipment too.

OK, I'll say it.... That's snot funny.
Is it plastic compatible?
If the answer is yes, does that come from manufacturer information or personal observation?
If personal observation, have you been using it long enough for damage to show up in any plastic materials?
I read about it in a story in ORG. If they say it is OK.....
But the Halo effect on gears like on th 765 is neat!

Check out Roger1s post about half way down.

baltimoretrainworks, thanks for the info.
Lucas Red N Tacky certainly seems to have a cult following among OGR forum members. Is there a reason to prefer it over any other NLGI #2 chassis and bearing grease?

In my case, and these are just my opinions:
1) It is a Lucas Oil Co. product, and the Lucas family actively sponsors NHRA Drag Racing.
2) It WORKS!
3) It is tacky.
4) It is red.

"I dunno"

You mean other than the fact that it works fabulously well?
I used it on my HO trains for many years (since the mid nineties? twenty years? the memory fades) before I found the OGR forum.

It's synthetic, and it's tacky.
