Hi Scott,

What class (for example Rr-43) are you trying to model?  The Santa Fe Historical Society has an excellent reference guide (Santa Fe Railway Rolling Stoce Reference Series Volume two Refrigerator Cars).  When I was converting cars into a more accurate reefer model, I found that using a Lionel or MTH model was a better starting place.  If nothing else, the color is much closer to the PRB reefers that I already had so I did not have to completely repaint them.  If you are trying to model a plug door, Lionel has a plug door model that is very close.

For non-plug door conversion, the hardest part for me was to make the door wider.  Sometimes I scribed the new door and sometimes I cut the new door out.  I usually used Grandt Line hinges for replacement hinges.

I got my reefer train out yesterday.  It is one of the trains I plan on running during the Rockford O Scalers open house related to the March Meet.
