Hello all,
I hope it is ok to post this here. I am new here and don't own any trains (although I love some of the pics I've seen browsing around the forums) but am a pressure vessel design engineer for a fabricator that builds the actual vessels. I was Google searching ways to possibly build a scale model of some of the vessels I work with to have a show piece or two. This website popped up with a post by Popsrr titled "Night Time Pictures of Oil Refinery" in which the first two pictures shown below were taken from. These were fairly detailed and realistic and I would love to have something like that as my "show pieces" for clients. I've posted 3 more pics of 3D SolidWorks models that I've done the engineering on lately to give you an idea of what I'm working with.
The point to all this is: I would be very interested in getting tips on how to construct a vessel such as this (i.e. what materials to use, how do you make the heads??, how to bond the materials, how to detail the structure and attachments, etc...). I would also welcome a point in the right direction to someone or someones that build these type of things that I could send actual fabrication drawings and have them build one for me since I don't have a ton of free time on my hands. Thank you for your input.
Nathan
P.S. I can be of assistance to anyone wanting a design for realistic (actual) refinery vessels if they need one. The 3D model vessels shown are for CITGO, Phillips 66, and ExxonMobil respectively and we regularly build vessels for Shell, Chevron, Valero, and many others.
