I am considering applying LED's to the Bachman signal bridges, three color aspects, and trying to specify a relay for connection to the common rails, one of these rails to be insulated for block signaling. I am considering using SPDT relays for each block aspect color and powering these relays with either a Lionel V or Z transformers, The question I have is the what are the maximum-minimum voltages for coil voltage, I have seen minus 15% and 10% above rated capacity of the relay and what current rating is required. The Lionel V & Z are ac voltage output, do you have to rectify to DC voltage to prevent relay chatter, seeking to use general purpose relay with top flange mounting to bottom of train board, Also since the relay circuit is completed by the metal wheelset contacting the outside (common) rail, the center track for locomotive has no impact on the relay. If Forum Members could replay what are the electrical specifications of the relay they have used it would be appreciated.
