Our society is gadget oriented with both good or bad results. We want simplicity but are enamored of what technology can do when it's working. Not so much when it doesn't, whether its a hot water heater or a command control system. Old time circuit breakers used to fry locomotives, or what we called short circuits. Nothings perfect. More complicated? Yes but what isnt? We want convenience made possible by complexity and yet want simplicity too. Technology whatever it is can either be a headache or a blessing and that applies to non model railroad stuff. I am sure hand cranking a car back in the day and not having it start made for some creative cussing.

We need to know which transformer.(please don't say "the black one")

You need a "known to be good" tester of some kind. 18-24volt bulb will work (lighted car? Not the loco!..yet). $10ish ohm/volt meter is better, better ones are best.

For those of us who have been around this hobby for a long time, the changes were gradual until the advent of the Modern Era. Mike Wolf stormed onto the O-Gauge scene and nothing has been the same since. He set the example of what can be done and others jumped in (if they had any intensions of being competitive). TMCC also was a big game changer thanks to Neil Young.

The future has no restrictions. It is going to be a fun ride for all O-Gauge fans.
