Hey all. Has anyone ever renumbered an engine? My dad picked up an extra MTH RK Amtrak genesis diesel. I can’t remember the product number but it was an RTR set from I think 1999. It’s Proto 1. I know that much. I tested and I’m pretty sure the battery is shot, I’m going to throw a BCR in it and go from there.

Now the question is, he would like to MU the diesels together, being proto1 lock both engines in the direction. He wants to change the number on the trailing unit. How can the number be taken from the body, without damaging the finish. I’m looking to use dry transfer decals for the new number. I’m just trying to figure out how to take the old number off.

I could provide pictures later when I get home

thanks!!!

Many different methods have been used successfully on different mfrs paint, Testors Easy Lift Off, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, different solvents like the lacquer thinner above, even a regular old pencil eraser.  Do a search on removing numbers from MTH engines to see what works best.  I seem to recall threads about MTH graphics being harder to remove than others.  I've used the Testors ELO successfully on MTH rolling stock.
