Added a newly acquired Railking Imperial Proto 3  Pennsy 2-8-2 to the DCS layout on Fixed 1 on the outer loop. Shortly thereafter a Railking Proto 3 Pennsy M1 started to move on its own on the Fixed 2 inner loop while I was operating the 2-8-2    I was able to shut the M1 down and back it into the engine shed while I still had the 2-8-2 at idle.    I do have both loops live at the same time on the TIU.

At different times , intermittently,  the remote showed TIU ERROR and I had a  partial or slowed response from the remote over the 2-8-2.  I started up a reliable Proto 2 Railking switcher in the rail yard on the Fixed 1 while the 2-8-2 was at idle .  The switcher had also exhibited the same type of behavior of not always responding off and on .  Ever once in while " TIU ERROR " would pop up .

The remote had new batteries ..........The track is clean and wheels and pickups are clean.........The TIU is a REV.L..........Connections on the TIU are secure............The remote is tethered to the TIU............ The red light on the TIU came on and blinked once.............Before operating today I never had the TIU ERROR show up on the remote.

I tried to find some info in the 5th Edition manual that came with the  more than 2 year old TIU but have come up empty so far.

How can I find out why the error message is showing up and how do I get things back to normal 🙃 ?

HEY Joe,

The used 2-8-2 L-1  ( Item No. 30 -1641 ) was a purchase on eBay.

It ran OK on conventional when I tested it . On DCS not so much .  With the other two engines running poorly I ASSUMED ( 😴🙃 ) the TIU was at fault .

I opened things up yesterday and found a wobbly capacitor next to the DCC/DCS connector on the board in the tender. It pretty much fell off when I touched it.

I resoldered the cap and wasn't sure of how well it took ,so i added epoxy reinforcement to the area .

Today I started things up 😓.  No TIU  ERROR on the remote and all three of the engines I had started up yesterday didnt give any indication of disobedience.  Every thing seemed normal and good.........I've started the DCS up several different times today with good luck.

Who was it on the forum who said they would rather be lucky ??? ............I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the reply Joe.
