I'm having trouble getting my friend's DCS remote to communicate with the TIU.  I spent the afternoon upgrading the TIU and remote to version 4.20 software.  I had no issues when I downloaded the software.

I tested the TIU and remote on a layout that I knew had no issues with DCS.  So I swapped out the existing TIU and remote with my friend's equipment.  I could not get my friend's remote to communicate with his TIU.  I even performed a reset on both the TIU and remote, but still no change.  I then tried supplying a tether between the remote and TIU.  To my surprise, the system worked perfectly.  I know this isn't a signal interference issue, because the remote on the other DCS system had no trouble communicating wirelessly with the TIU.

Is it possible that a board in my friend's TIU or remote has gone bad?

Nick,

Is it possible that a board in my friend's TIU or remote has gone bad?

No, it's most likely that all the handling that the TIU and the remote received when taken off the layout for the upgrade simply caused the transceiver board in the TIU, remote or both to float out of it's socket just a bit. This is not too difficult to correct.

The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition pages 155-156 explains, in great detail, how to correct this problem and keep it from recurring.
