Hi,

My Atlas engine squeals and obviously needs lubrication.  I have oiled the wheels and pick-up rollers, but the engine still squeals.  The obvious next thing to do is lube the motor, but I cannot find a way to get the shell off.  I removed all the screws that appear to hold the shell to the frame, but the shell is still held firmly in place.  I have searched for the manual on line and on the Atlas web site, but cannot find one.  I e-mailed Atlas about 10 days ago, but they have not responded.   What do I need to do to remove the shell?  What is the trick?

Thanks for any and all help.

Thanks John, but I don't see any tabs that look like they would let the shell loose.  I do have the original manual and all it talks about is oiling the axles and pick-up rollers.  No  mention of the motor, lubing it, or a diagram to show how to remove the shell.  If a diagram is ever posted, it would be very helpful.  I have seen others say these shells are really hard to remove, dealers won't even do it, so for now, I will let the engine sit on a siding.

There are 4 screws. 2 at each end. It helps to take the side frames off to access them. There are 2 tabs at the front of the cab— mine broke off. No harm. Carefully wiggle the hood and cab up. They will come as one piece.

The squealing sound may be the flywheel rubbing against the heat sink. That is the trouble with this one. If you know how to fix the rub, let me know!IMG_7382
