A number of reasons for the weathering. 

I like my stuff to look real.....so I weather most equipment. 

We are talking 1970's era Rock IIsland a RR that had no money for anything. Google photos of RI right before it shut.....rough stuff!!

The weathering comes across more in a photo than a basement layout.....I've learned it's somewhat like theater......

We are starting to get off topic here again, but, I would like to respond to that statement since something along this nature happened to me just a few days ago.

 

I would think that a modeler with any integrity would fix their mistake before moving on. You may not be able to see my mistake, but, I would know it was there. So, it gets fixed, no matter how much trouble that I have to go through to fix it.
