Repair question - how to remove a coupler from a Lionel U28cg?

I'm trying to remove the rear coupler that was damaged on a Lionel U28 from about 10 years ago. Have removed the 'T' post and associated parts but can't see where to disconnect the two wires from the truck. Can this be done without removing the truck and if not, what is the proper way to detach the truck from the chassis/motor please?

Those two wires will run all the way to the motherboard. You will have to remove the shell. It simply unplugs from the board.
