Replacement Circuit Board for MTH Car Wash

What is your pcb doing or not doing? How bad did you let the smoke out?

Also, keep in mind, this is a board and system that has to cycle. So when you power it up, it wants to move the door and chain to a specific parking starting sequence (hitting specific limit switches). It might not be a bad board and you just have some mechanical or electrical problem where it is not in the correct state to begin?

I appreciate all the tips regarding possible causes for inaction for the car wash, but, after another round of checking,  fingers point to the circuit board as the problem.  Still looking for a replacement source or repair of mine.

What exactly is it doing?  I had one in last week where the large gears were binding on the base  (nylon shrinks as it ages, common problem with small spur gears splitting as they age).  When I was at MTH, I just replaced the gears.

One of my favorite Lionel operating cars, the snow blower car from about 20 years ago, is now a paper weight due to the failure of a couple of pieces that are no longer offered.  The chickens are steadily all coming in to roost with these kind of circuit board & other failures, with no available replacement parts, on MTH & Lionel products from, even, fairly recent years past.  It is sad. 

I have an MTH car wash that I purchased new when it first came out a long time ago. Now I'm about to install it on my new layout. Is there anything I should do before I apply power and potentially damage it? I did haul it out of the box when I first  bought it and verified that it worked. But that was then, and this is now.

The gearboxes have a clutch that will “click” when overloaded, so if the chain gears are binding or limit switches for the door are out of adjustment, you will hear it.

Thanks for that information. I think I will bench test it before I drop it into position on the layout.
