When one runs out of track pins what would be an acceptable replacement?

You can buy more pins directly from Ross, probably your best bet, unless your LHS has them.
Same pins are used for Ross and GarGraves. When I run low, I just pick up the phone and give Steve at Ross a call.
I agree just call Ross. By the time you call around or run around burning gas they could be in your mailbox.
Ross, Just Trains or direct from Gar Graves. I have ordered from all................
Use gas welding rod if you only need a few.
Well, if it's only a few, send your address to the email in my profile and I pull some off some spare track and send them to you.
You can get them right from Gar Graves as well
You can make your own pins from 16 ga. galvanized soft steel wire. A 25' roll from the hardware store should last quite awhile. Or any other approximately 1/16" diameter steel, brass, or copper wire should work okay, too.
