I have a K Line engine (K3330 3420 with K Line Real Sounds) and the sound card needs replacement. are there recommendation for 3rd party cards? From the engine their is a flat 4 pin female connector to the Tender. The control card has 4 outputs labeled BR (BROWN), BL (BLUE) RD-ROL (RED), BK-WHE (BLACK).

Specific recommendations of cards and techniques to change the sound card are appreciated. Tom

Not familiar with that exact locomotive configuration, but something like the ERR RailSounds Commander would be a good match and should be able to replace that.  There will doubtless be a little work to make it work.

I also have one of these kits hanging around here, that should be usable for this application and would likely be cheaper.

Some pictures of the sound card and installation would be of assistance here.

OK, this is an ancient conventional model with that board.  You can just remove their audio board and find a spot for the ERR RailSounds Commander.  In this scenario, you'll need a chuff generation source, that one probably has an axle sensor.  ERR supplies a reed switch and magnet to generate chuffs from a tender wheel.  Power and speaker complete the wiring.
