I've been restoring a Lionel 2332 GG1. The nose decals are damaged I've ordered new ones. What is the best way to remove the damaged ones without damaging the underlying paint

Bob: you could try a commercial decal solvent I don’t recall the name maybe others on the forum can tell you I think it is a micro scale product or just soak the are with a wet sponge I would be very hesitant to soak the entire shell. I also have the same GGI with the side strips worn but can’t find the replacement set I bought. Where did you get your decals?
If the nose decal is an old one, use masking tape and apply, then pull off. May take a few attempts but will do the trick.
I'll try both methods I bought the decals on ebay
Solvaset produced by Walthers will soften a decal for removal. But it is mainly used to set new decals so that they adhere over the fine details like rivets. I always try and keep a bottle around for both uses.
